The Cohasset Field Hockey team has started off with a strong season, playing tough competition straight off the bat in order to prepare for tournament play. Last Thursday, they battled a talented team, Dover Sherborn. While dominating the entire game in the offensive circle, the Skippers came up short with a 0-0 a tie after a hard fight. On Saturday, the Skippers faced another tough game against Somerset-Berkley. Somerset is a very strong team that won the Division 1 state champsionship last year. This team is also unique for having two strong boys on their team that are ultimately the backbone of their team. Despite the score, this game was very evenly matched and there was never a moment of giving up. The half ended with Somerset up 2-0, and they increased their lead in the second half after driving to the net some more.

With the loss of last year’s starting goalie, Caitlin Durkin, the Skippers are still getting used to new defensive players. All the way until tournament, the Skippers are continuously practicing to adapt to the new ways of the defense in order to protect the net better. Early in the season, the Lady Skippers dominated the play against East Bridgewater, Hingham, and Middleboro and came out with big wins at the end. On Tuesday they played against Carver and won 4-1. During this game, the team tried out new formations and plays in order to prepare for a big game against Dennis Yarmouth on Friday night.

Homecoming weekend is a big one for the field hockey team: Dennis Yarmouth is their biggest competitor in the league and the reason they are unable to make it to States every year. Although, Friday’s game will be interesting to see the turnout as DY lost 6 seniors and 2 starting players to private school this year. This will be a good game to watch so everyone come out and get loud Friday night to support the field hockey team!!

Cohasset Field Hockey team happy after a dominating win over Carver on Tuesday!
